VALIDATION SCHEME FOR UNAUTHORISED SIGNBOARDS SERVICE
Signboard owners are encouraged to join the Validation Scheme by appointing the Prescribed Building Professionals (PBP) and/or Prescribed Registered Contractors (PRC) (i.e. the Appointed Persons) to inspect, strengthen (if required) and certify the structural safety of the existing unauthorised signboards that are relatively small in scale, pose less potential risk and already existed before 2 September 2013.
This is a voluntary scheme implemented since 2 September 2013, and the safety check is required to be carried out again every 5 years or the unauthorised signboards should be removed. See Legal Status of Validated Signboards. Unauthorised signboards that can be validated should meet the requirements under the Buildings Ordinance and its subsidiary regulations, Building (Minor Works) Regulation and should comply with:
- the construction requirements
- the positional and dimensional requirements
- the relevant requirements of concerned departments such as Fire Services Department, Transport Department and Highways Department
